What an adventure! For 42 years, it has been my privilege to watch you travel deeper, and therefore further, into semiotic space. With each year, you passed the orbits of the significant 'wanderers', out beyond Firth's "stratospheric" (you know the reference): Saussure. Whorf. Bloomfield. Hjelmslev...and on, yes: testing the limit. And what is more, not only with your own light rising: you guided a constellation of bright, enduring careers. Appliable and employable linguists: an achievement of no lesser kind than publications. With your insights and hard work continuing still, we can all look forward.
